Three levels of competition are offered in the International Miss Program.
•Local Preliminary •State •National
|
|
Local Preliminary
This level of competition is of vital importance as it is the foundation of our program. Preliminary competitions are a one day event held in each local area. Participants in the preliminary level of competition compete in close-up appraisal, party dress and talent (when applicable). Those participants who qualify through their local pageant advance to represent their area at the State level of competition.
|
State
The state competiton consists of representatives from the local areas in each state. This is usually a weekend event. In addition to competition, participants attend parties, exchange goodies in their Souvenir Goody Bags and have fun, fun, fun! Each contestant competes in close-up appraisal, sportswear, party dress/ evening gown, playtime with the judges (Baby Miss, Tiny Miss & Petite Miss) and talent (Little Miss, Young Miss, Teen Miss & International Miss).
| National
The National Pageant is the culmination of all of the previous competitions. Participants from across the country come together for fantastic competition and fellowship. Usually held in late July, Nationals is an activity you definitely don't want to miss. Each year it is held in a different part of the country. In the past, Nationals has been staged in such places as Houston, Texas- Nashville, Tennessee- New Orleans, Louisiana- Dallas, Texas- Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Mobile, Alabama. Like the State Pageants, National contestants compete in Party Dress / Evening Gown, Close-Up Appraisal, Sportswear, Talent & Playtime with the Judges (if applicable.)

Close-Up Appriasal Close-Up Appraisal is a very important aspect of the competition, as it is the only time in which the judges hear the contestants communicate. The participants are taken in with the judges as a group but asked individual questions. Questions are age appropriate and not meant to test contestants on current events. The purpose of close-up appraisal is for he judges to have the opportunity to hear the contestants speak and learn a little about each one.
The attire for Close-Up is Sunday attire. The younger contestants usually wear a dress they may wear to church or a nice luncheon. The older groups wear either dresses or suits they may wear to church, luncheons or an interview.

|
| Party Dress / Evening Gown
Also considered, poise & appearance, this is a more formal portion of the competition. Contestants in the Baby Miss, Tiny Miss, Petite Miss, Little Miss & Young Miss divisions wear a short dressy party dress and contestants in the Teen Miss and International Miss divisions wear a formal evening gown.
|
|
|
Talent
The talent portion of competition includes the Little Miss, Young Miss, Teen Miss, & International Miss age groups in the official division. Talents may not exceed two and a half minutes. Talents usually consist of either vocals, dances, monologues, instruments, etc.
| |
| Sportswear
All age divisions compete in Sportswear on the state and national level. As with all garments, sportswear should be age appropriate. Sportswear is a dressy casual outfit, not literally an outfit one would wear to play sports.

|
Playtime with the Judges
Playtime is a very important part of the "IM" competition as it allows the judges to view the young children in a natural setting. Baby Miss, Tiny Miss and Petitie Miss contestants participate in Playtime. They literally play games, sing songs, tell secrets and act like little girls. The required garment for playtime is simply their "IM" t-shirt and shorts. Contestants may wear tennis shoes, sandals, etc. This is casual competition.

Optional Talent
Always a highlight of the competition, Optional Talent is offered in the Baby Miss, Tiny Miss & Petite Miss divisions. Talent is not part of the regular competition for theses divisions. However, many of our young contestants love to have the opportunity to perform their talent. This is strictly an optional event, judged by optional judges. The official judges do not see the Optional Talent competition. Optional Talent may not exceed one and a half to two minutes.
